Your adventure to the legendary K2 Base Camp begins in Islamabad, Pakistan’s vibrant capital. Our staff will welcome you at the airport (look for our company sign) and transfer you to a comfortable hotel near the Margalla Hills. Please share your flight details 3–4 days before arrival to ensure smooth pickup. If you arrive late, briefing and payments will be completed later in Skardu.
After breakfast, we take a scenic flight to Skardu, the heart of the Karakoram trekking region. On a clear day, the flight rewards you with aerial views of Nanga Parbat and the surrounding peaks. Upon landing, our staff will escort you to the hotel. Depending on arrival time, you may explore Skardu’s colorful bazaar or relax by the Indus River.
Today is a rest and acclimatization day in Skardu Valley. We’ll enjoy a short hike to Kharpocho Fort, which overlooks the Indus River and offers spectacular views of the mountains. The afternoon is free for gear checks, last-minute shopping, or sightseeing. Meanwhile, our office team finalizes trekking permits and paperwork required for the Baltoro Glacier route.
A thrilling jeep ride (5–7 hrs) takes us through the scenic Shigar Valley and along the Braldu River to Askoli – the last village before entering the Baltoro Glacier. Surrounded by green fields and rugged cliffs, Askoli is where porters join the trek. After setting up camp, enjoy evening tea, snacks, and a warm dinner under the stars.
The road now extends to Paju, allowing a jeep ride through Korofon and Jhula before continuing to the Paju campsite. This area marks the gateway to Baltoro Glacier and offers stunning views of Bakhordas Peak. We’ll camp overnight at Paju, surrounded by mountains, while our porters prepare rations for the onward trek.
A crucial acclimatization day at Paju helps prepare for trekking higher into the Karakoram. Relax, refresh, and enjoy the dramatic views. Optional short hikes include a trail to the Trango Towers viewpoint, one of the most iconic landmarks of the Baltoro Glacier Trek. Evening often comes alive with local music, dancing, and cultural exchange with porters.
Today marks the start of trekking on the mighty Baltoro Glacier. From Paju, we climb onto the glacier’s snout, surrounded by views of Trango Towers, Uli Biaho, and Paju Peak. The trail is rocky and undulating, so careful footing is essential. After a picnic lunch at Liligo facing the soaring Trango walls, we continue to Khoburse, where we camp for the night.
The hike to Urdukas Camp takes us further up the Baltoro Glacier. Urdukas is perched high above the ice and offers one of the trek’s most impressive panoramas — granite spires of Trango, Cathedral Peaks, and Uli Biaho, with Gasherbrum IV visible in clear weather. This shorter trekking day allows time to soak in the mountain scenery.
Trekking higher into the Karakoram, we pass Masherbrum on one side and Muztagh Tower on the other. After a stop at Goro I for lunch, we push on to Goro II, a cold and windy campsite located directly on the glacier. From here, trekkers get their first distant glimpse of Broad Peak and the Gasherbrum massif.
One of the most extraordinary days of the K2 Base Camp Trek. Concordia, known as the “Throne Room of the Mountain Gods,” sits at the confluence of Baltoro, Godwin-Austen, Gasherbrum, and Vigne Glaciers. Surrounded by 7,000m and 8,000m giants, including Broad Peak, Gasherbrum IV, Mitre Peak, and the mighty K2 itself, Concordia is considered one of the most spectacular campsites on Earth.
This is the highlight of the trek — standing at the legendary K2 Base Camp (5,120m). Early in the morning, we trek past Broad Peak Base Camp, then follow the Godwin-Austen Glacier to reach K2 Base Camp. Here, we also visit the Gilkey Memorial, honoring climbers who lost their lives on K2. On a clear day, you may meet mountaineers preparing their expeditions. After paying respects, we return to Concordia for the night.
After the unforgettable experience of K2 Base Camp, we retrace our steps back to Concordia. The day offers another chance to admire the 360° views of Karakoram giants before we continue the descent along the Baltoro Glacier.
We begin our return journey, trekking back down the Baltoro Glacier. The descent to Goro I or Biango Camp offers a different perspective of the surrounding peaks, making the journey just as breathtaking as the climb up. The hike takes about 5–6 hours.
We continue our descent from Goro I, pausing at Urdukas for lunch before trekking further to Khoburse Camp. The route follows the glacier’s edge, with dramatic views of Trango Towers and Cathedral Spires. After 6 hours of trekking, we set camp at Khoburse.
The trek continues back to Paju Camp, with towering peaks like Trango Towers, Uli Biaho, and Paju Peak once again dominating the horizon. This is a 5–6 hour hike across mixed terrain. Tonight we camp and enjoy one last evening in the shadow of the Karakoram giants.
Leaving the wilderness of Baltoro behind, jeeps will pick us up from Paju for the bumpy but scenic drive back to Askoli village. This marks the end of trekking on foot as we return to civilization.
We drive back to Skardu, completing the journey through the Shigar Valley. This evening allows time to refresh, shop for souvenirs, or explore Skardu town. It’s also a chance to celebrate the completion of the K2 Base Camp Trek with the group.
A morning flight takes us from Skardu back to Islamabad. The short journey often offers spectacular aerial views of Nanga Parbat and the Himalaya–Karakoram ranges. After arrival, transfer to the hotel for rest and leisure.
This is a reserved day to compensate for any flight cancellations or weather-related delays in the mountains. If unused, trekkers can enjoy a sightseeing tour of Islamabad, including the Faisal Mosque, Lok Virsa Museum, or Margalla Hills.
After breakfast, our staff will transfer participants to Islamabad International Airport for their onward journey. With lifelong memories of the K2 Base Camp Trek, it’s time to say farewell.
K2basecamptrek.co is recognized as the leading native trekking company in Pakistan, operated by a team with unmatched expertise, local insight, and deep knowledge of the mountains, people, and culture.
The K2 Base Camp Trek is a remote, long expedition through the rugged Karakoram. Since there are no settlements along the trail, you must be fully prepared with the right gear. Below is our recommended packing list for Baltoro Glacier trekking:
The trek to K2 Base Camp is challenging. The route follows rugged glacier terrain, steep ascents and descents, and unpredictable weather — even summer can bring snow at higher camps. While no technical climbing is required, this is a demanding high-altitude trek that requires solid physical fitness and mental stamina. Preparing with hiking, running, swimming, and cycling beforehand is strongly recommended. With determination and preparation, even senior trekkers have completed this journey successfully. For those needing a gentler pace, we also customize itineraries with shorter walking days and extra rest stops.
No. Independent trekking is not allowed in the Karakoram. The K2 region lies in a restricted zone along Pakistan’s borders with China and India. All visitors — including Pakistanis — must be accompanied by a licensed local guide and a registered trekking agency. Permits and NOC (No Objection Certificates) are mandatory, as K2 and other 8000m peaks are part of the Central Karakoram National Park.
Booking through a government-registered tour operator is the only way. The agency arranges permits, licensed guides, and logistics. K2basecamptrek.co handles all paperwork and provides expert local guides, ensuring a smooth and safe experience.

The K2 trek involves 6–9 hours of daily walking with average elevation gains of 300m. Anyone with determination and a reasonable fitness regime can complete it successfully. Key factors that determine readiness:

We welcome solo female trekkers. If no other female participant is available to share, we provide a private room or tent at no additional cost. Many women have joined our K2 groups confidently, supported by our professional team.
K2, also known as Chogori, is the world’s second-highest mountain at 8,611m above sea level. K2 Base Camp sits at an altitude of about 5,117m. The trek begins in Islamabad at 540m, gradually rising through Skardu (2,228m) and Askoli village (3,040m) before reaching the base camp.
The trail includes rugged glacier terrain, steep ascents, and long trekking days. Snowfall is possible even in summer. While no technical climbing is required, this is a strenuous high-altitude trek that demands good physical fitness and stamina.
